Something you might wish to look at during the winter months is the Local Boater Option (Small Vessel Reporting System).
Many people don’t know that you can re-enter the U.S. without physically checking in with customs and immigration. Administered by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Local Boater Option (LBO) program is voluntary and offers easy customs and immigration clearance for recreational boaters at the time of arrival.
CBP offers an expedited arrival and reporting process for boaters enrolled in the program and satisfies the boat operator’s legal requirement to report to a port of entry for face-to-face inspection.
However, boaters are still required to phone in their arrival to CBP.
Visit the Small Vessel Reporting System website to apply online for LBO participation and schedule an appointment for an interview.
